I'm Hannah Pickering, a painter and letterer living in Nashville, TN. As an artist, I'm passionate about creating beautiful pieces that encourage people's hearts and beautify the spaces where they live and work. In 2018, while on a missions trip to Jamaica, I was inspired to illustrate and hand-letter verses from Psalms and Proverbs. These two books of the Bible have been massive sources of strength and encouragement to me, and my prayer is that these paintings will bring the same comfort and joy to your life as well. Each month I hand-letter a verse from Psalms or Proverbs and pair it with an illustrated botanical that captures my imagination with inspiration from the verse. Each piece is professionally printed and delivered to your mailbox. My hope is to one day compile these pieces into a book, like the ancient illustrated Bible manuscripts, but until then, I would love to have you along for the journey.

It was week two of three in Jamaica in the summer of 2018. My husband Wes and I were there doing short term missions, helping to build classrooms at Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf. I had taken a summer-long break from artwork because we were away for so much ministry work. The break was much-needed as I was feeling a little directionless with my creativity. As the summer progressed, I began to feel anticipation for what was coming next. I had a sense that, at some point during our time in Jamaica, God was going to give me an idea for my next project.

There I was one night in my hot Jamaican hotel room after a long work-day and, boom! It was like I could see it in my mind’s eye: an illustrated book of Psalms and Proverbs. Like a modern take on the illuminated manuscripts of old, I could suddenly see how this project would bring fresh life and context to people’s most-loved Scriptures.

I spent much of the past year trying to decide on how to approach this new goal and put it in a manageable form. I had simultaneously been toying with the idea of starting a monthly print club, so I finally landed on combing the two ideas. As I work on the illustrations and hand-lettering for the Psalms and Proverbs book project, I will offer a featured piece of artwork each month to my print club subscribers.

My mission with this print club is to use beauty and artistry to bring fresh perspective to Scripture and bring encouragement to people’s hearts. Psalms is so often where we turn for inspiration when we don’t know what to pray or how to put our emotions into words; and Proverbs is comprised of words of wisdom and truth for all areas of life. Why not combine the two with seasonal artwork in a way to make the highlighted verses memorable and relevant to our everyday lives?

I have already been blown away by people’s stories of how the Psalms and Proverbs Print Club artwork has personal significance to their seasons. It brings me so much joy to think that the artwork behind these verses will serve as the backdrop to people’s lives, prayers, and testimonies of breakthrough.

I’m honored that you’ve taken the time to check out my artwork. My name is Hannah Pickering and I’m an acrylic floral painter and hand-letterer living in Nashville, TN.

A little bit about me: I grew up in the Ozark Mountain in northern Arkansas. I’ve never formally studied art (I’m completely self-taught!) but I have a degree in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute. I’ve called Nashville, TN my home since 2011 and live there with my husband Wes Pickering and our beloved border collie, Heidi.

After finishing Bible college, I found myself in desperate need of a creative outlet so I started painting abstract expressionist pieces to decorate my house. As more and more people were interested in what I was creating, I spend an Etsy shop in 2013 and started selling my work online. For many years, my time was still split between traveling with Wes to lead worship and time at home painting, but in the summer of 2019 I felt it was time to focus more on my art career and I started the Psalms and Proverbs Print Club.

My passion is to use artwork to create an avenue for people to see scripture in new light, be encouraged, and connect with the heart of God through beauty and artistry. I would be overjoyed to have your support as a subscriber to the Psalms and Proverbs Print Club.
